My Plain Jane Review

My Plain Jane

By: Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, & Brodi Ashton

You may think you know the story. After a miserable childhood, penniless orphan Jane Eyre embarks on a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester. Despite their significant age gap (!) and his uneven temper (!!), they fall in love—and, Reader, she marries him. (!!!)

Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Brontë, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

I gave this story a 4 star out of 5. I am not a big fan of Jane Eyre. I liked the story of Jane Eyre, but I just wasn’t a fan of the writing. I decided to give My Plain Jane a chance. I was pleasantly surprised by the story and found myself enjoying it a lot. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It’s been little over a day since I finished it and I find myself still going back and smiling about different parts of the story.

I saw that this book had more than one writer. It has three! I was worried the flow of the story would suffer, but these three ladies wrote a seamless story with a great flow that kept me engaged and interested the entire time.

This “spirited” (😜) story had just the right amount of romance, humor, and supernatural to make it a killer of a story. This is one I highly recommend you check out.
